When [[Saphira]] was known as "Saph" & it fought against the other City-states for control of recourses, power, & more so to survive. Things were different then. Our laws were not quite so well constructed. Indeed this was a time before Kings, before Counsels. When the Continent was in disarray. [Mournhowl](Mournhowl.md) to the North, Princes were fighting Princes for the right to wear the great crown. The West, though a contingent of the Fey Wild. The Eldar there, old & yet young still. [[The Pale City]], [[Aldafife]] these places did not exist in the way you know them._ - _The reason I tell you this, is that this is where I believe our story truly begins. It is not rightly known on how [[Corvanis]] was colonized, only that with the exception of the [[Ontvanti]], our ancestors were foreigners. that came to colonize & conquer. To live a life free from whatever oppression they left behind, or for the thirst of pure adventure. It is during this time,... although there were some war, Mostly the world was at peace. It was during this time, the Golden Age of [[Corvanis]] has begun. Births, food, All in equal abandon. But it was also a time of competency._ - _Nobody knows why or even when it started, but the Demons began to pour forth from the center of our land. It began to spill from the mountains. The Dwarfs were the first to fall, from the recollection of texts. The first to fight them, first caught off guard, first to be overwhelmed. It is during this time, before the Church of Light was more than an errant trickle in someone's eye. When Mages, we think from foreign soil, thought that they could hold back the demons tide. It was the siege of Twist River, The Time of Embers, as they pushed past [[Moonshade Tavern]]._ - _It is in the very Free Forest, that a desperate plan was enacted. For you see the foreigners brought with them powerful magics. Magics that was said could contort & distort the form. I've only seen pieces of the text of the spells required to create such a magnanimous reaction,... but it was foolish. For it would seem that the magic of our land, operates differently than the continent in which they came. This phage of death, fell upon the demons, devastating them. But it came with it, an errant side effect. Our fortune quickly shifted, as the demons that would die, would not dissipate as they had before, but rather they would rise again. Retaining both the fire of their life previous, & the cold dark advantage, of their post-life. This act was folly, & it destroyed the city of [[Pride Lake]]. The scholars speak of their screams, speaks of stone melting, horse weeping. The Foreign mages sacrificed themselves to seal their mistake within the Ruins, & in the lake themselves._ - _That is the end of the Legends that I was able to recover. There are different pieces, pieces that yet still remain grey to me, as to what these creatures were or even if it truly happened in that manner. But what is known, is what would happen to those inflicted by it. and if [[Moritaria]] is correct, and confirmed my suspicions. Then it means that protections of those Mages are failing.
