# Marlowe's Despair *Season 3, Episode 20-21 of [Sagas and Solace](Sagas%20and%20Solace.md), transcribed snippets by [[Reevee]], Marlowe's Fan* >I am currently trying to figure out what we can do to save this continent, I'm not going to take a detour in my mind to try and save [Twilight Mouse's](The%20Twilight%20Mouse.md) family. It **really isn't of consequence to me**. >You realize this whole place is done, in less than a decade. **It's Over.** We can even succeed in our task and no one might rise to the occasion. >My worry is that throughout our journey, we have discovered nothing but a collection of dire needs... >It sounds like we don't know what is happening. There is more to be found here, but I should return to Laza. There is a lot on my mind as well as information that we're not privy to. Will you be fine without me for a couple days at the least, however much time that I need. >What do ***You*** want to do? >Mister Laza, there is something I would like to discuss with you in confidence. We are both quite old, you and I. People of this land are often startled by my lifespan, brief to my kind, long to others, yet I feel I have experienced more than is necessary. I've grown quite bitter, as you can probably tell. Lost my romantic lens so to speak. I understand by virtue of your personality you're quite optimistic, but I wish for this sharing of my opinion to vy for the opinion of the old man I know you to be. > >I'm saying that from what we've discovered, and what we seem to continue to discover, the odds of saving this continent from destruction are really not in our favor. Frankly we're outnumbered by forces who have a vested interest in its destruction. If we could be granted the wish of unanimously uniting the warring factions, we still wouldn't be able to direct them to a precise and timely solution. We don't have much time, we have more problems than solutions. We may succeed in the footsteps of [Ezokhine](Ezokhine.md) in giving the people what they need to shape their world, but even then they might not want to change anything that requires them to set aside their ambition. > *(42:24 Laza says some nonsense)* > >We do not have sufficient knowledge to deal with the situation. As for our disagreement in perspective it is something I understand and respect, and I will say to that, for the people, I...they have a right to create. I think it is a good that they have the knowlege and sufficient tools to do so, but it is also right that they have the freedom to choose to let their world crumble in their hands. I personally will not sit aside as knowledge is lost, but I will not sacrifice my life so that others may learn to cherish what they have taken for granted. > >(What would you sacrifice your life for?) > >I don't know. Ideally something I believe in, but I don't think that matters. My thoughts are set upon a contingency, perhaps a way to preserve this knowledge in stone when this continent is torn asunder. I'm under the assumption that this will fail. If not, I will have this sanctuary and keep record of what was lost. There will be a day I enter that place and do not return. Before then, I will trust your optimism is not coming from a place of naivety, and will do my best to support these people in getting what they need. >Back in the Razor Cliffs, when that house was burning with all those people in it, that wasn't the first time I've seen a house full of people burned down. It most likely will not be the last. If you have any wonder to why Babylon doesn't care about any of this, this is probably not the first continent he's seen destroyed, and I'm willing to bet wit will not be the last. That perspective gives me the ability to act and be assertive. These decisions that I make have consequences...you will suffer from the repercussions of those consequences, but I act on what I know when I make these decisions. > >This is a fucked up place, and the world itself is not our friend. > >It just seems to be the way of things, people aren't concerned about you or your home or what you love or anything, the world doesnt care about you, Knarh.
