His early childhood was simple, his family living in a small home on some land owned by a kind elderly couple near the Twilight Hills. His father was a businessman of sorts making connections in town and doing different sorts of odd jobs and other business to help the locals around town. His Mother was primarily his caretaker, but she had a small hobby of baking sweets, sometimes just for the family to enjoy and other times selling on the streets to travelers and the townsfolk as well. > >Sometime after Holdan turned 9 his family was about to grow as his mother was now pregnant. All seemed to be going well and his mother and Father were happy together and little Holdan was awaiting his new baby sibling. 9 months later, a few months after Holdan’s 10th birthday, his mother gave birth to a pair of twins Ophelia and Tristam. Around this time though signs of stress started to plague Arthur and he started becoming more aloof with the family. Holdan didn’t really understand what was going on at the time, but his mother did begin to worry. Then a little over a month after his siblings were born, in the middle of the night his father had abandoned the family. He and his mother awoke the next day with his father gone, with no message about his whereabouts, assuming his father was just out in town on some business, they moved on with their day as normal, Holdan playing in the yard as his mother tended to his new baby siblings. Days passed and his father never returned, and no message was sent to the family about where he was. > >At this point things seemed to be dire for his family. His mother was in talks with the elderly couple who owned the land their house was on, and the elderly couple also seemed concerned about the disappearance of his father. Thankfully his family did have some coin saved up so they were not in any immediate risk of being put out on the streets, and the elderly couple did work with his mother to help find agreeable terms to lighten the payments required for a reasonable period of time. Some months after turning 10 Holdan realized that without his father around there was no man to take care of the house, and with his mother busy caring for two babies, something Holdan at that age was not adept at handling, there wasn’t any income coming to the house, and if things kept up that way they would eventually run out of money. > >After some talks with his mother, Holdan decided to start spending his days wandering the town looking for any small odd jobs the townsfolk would offer the child for some small pay. Small amounts of copper here a few silvers there, but it was something to help his family get by. This became a routine for Holdan for about three years, waking early in the morning to get into town and help shops get opened, cleaning the streets around store fronts, delivering small amounts of goods from one place to the other. Anything that people were willing to offer to let him do. But towards the end of that 3 years the Elderly woman whos land they lived on had lost her Husband to a sickness, and due to her loss was no longer able to realistically continue with receiving reduced payments from his mother and still being able to get by on her own. > >His mother was understanding of the circumstances and resumed her original payment plans with the elderly woman. They still had a small bit of wealth left but it would not last much longer than a few months, even with Holdan doing small jobs around town, and even though his siblings were 3 years old by now, his mother still had to remain home to take care of the two of them. Holdan began to look for a more serious paying job, something more consistent compared to the inconsistent wages and available jobs he was working in town. > >It was at this time that Holdan found out about job offerings at the local mines. Looking for able bodied men to work the mines, and for other available persons to act as “GoFers” delivering items and necessities to the workers in the mines and the administrative workers that oversaw the mining facilities. The pay was more consistent and by putting in some extra hours each month he would be just shy of making enough to help sustain his homestead. The only problem that he would later run into would be convincing the administrator of the mine to allow him to work. After much pleading for a position and gathering some of the townsfolk he had done jobs for in the past to vouch for him the Mine administrator allowed Holdan to work in the mines delivering materials. > >Time passed and Holdan studiously followed through with his daily duties at the mine working from sun rise to sunset most days and coming home for the night primarily to rest. His mother even began baking again, mainly for the children but every so often some of the kind townsfolk would come over to the homestead and offer to buy some of her pastries as well. Over time as he worked in the mines his family finally being in a more stable state with their living condition, the many hours of work and hauling of heavy materials did help the young quarterling to build some bulk and improve his overall strength and stamina greatly increasing his performance for completing his tasks. > >After 3 more years of working to provide for his family a chance opportunity presented itself to Holdan, as an accident in the mines left a few of the miners injured during a time when the mine administrator had been contracted to meet a quota of Sagestones to be provided to the Church and the deadline was approaching. Seeing an opportunity arise, Holdan offered to lend a hand with the excavation of the crystals in the mines and the administrator desperate for any extra help agreed to allow Holdan to help with the mining process. Thankfully Holdan being a studious observer, while he had spent this last 3 years running errands for the mines, he was also keeping tabs on the work process of the miners. So, he was able to quickly grasp what needed to be done and quickly get to work harvesting the Sagestones, even going further and working late into the nights some nights to help make sure the quota was met. Thanks primarily to the help of Holdan, but also the help of a few other hands he was able to find to fill the gap of the injured miners, the administrator was able to fulfil his order with the church on time. > >After witnessing Holdan do such a fantastic job working in the mines, the administrator decided that even though Holdan was only 16 at the time, if Holdan was willing to work as hard as he had been and could show results, he would allow Holdan to work as one of the miners. Holdan obviously took the offer as the pay was much better hour wise for working the mines themselves and even though the hours were longer, he would have the freedom to manage his time more wisely and any excess work he chose to take over his assigned quotas per time period would be pure profit for him. This while giving Holdan a bit more physical intense work to do over longer periods of time, allowed Holdan after 6 years, to have the ability to finally have some spare time to be with his family. > >Now as his life started to stabilize. Holdan continued working his blue-collar job to help provide for his mother and siblings. Now that his siblings were old enough to go to school and be somewhat autonomous, his mother was able to get out in the community more and not spend as much time holed up at home raising the children. After another two years as Holdan reached adulthood his mother began seeing a potential suitor and after two years of a healthy relationship, his mother remarried a dwarven man named Ranmir Stonemane. His mother and both of his siblings took the last name of his new step-father as his mother wanted to forget the pain his father left by leaving them and Ophelia and Tristam never got to know their father anyways. But Holdan decided to keep his father’s last name, thinking one day he would be able to confront his father about what he had done to his family. > >From there Holdan lived a simple hardworking life, taking an interest in the stones and ores of the mines, an interest he shared with his new step father. And through some dealings with the mines eventually some interest he shared with a cheery dwarf named Rea Farrier that he had befriended through his work and their mutual enjoyment of smithing. > >After 9 or so years living the simple life Holdan realized that he never got to truly experience the wonder of growing up or get to know any truly exciting endeavors. Knowing that his siblings were now grown, and his mother was in good hands, Holdan decided to venture out into the world to do some adventuring of his own. After starting his way on the road, he eventually came across a fiery red headed lass looking for hardworking and strong companions to work with her for an adventuring group. Not being one to pass up an opportunity Holdan decided to join the girl’s Vanguard as she called it and began to accompany her on her journey. Eventually though through a bit of travel the thought came across that the group would need someone that could tend to their wounds if something happened to them, and Holdan knew just the dwarf for the job. > >…And the rest is history in the making…
