### History
About 500 years ago, Mytheria, a powerful mortal, found herself mortally wounded halfway through her campaign to conquer the continent of [Corvanis](Corvanis.md) to free it from demonkind. In order to survive, she made the difficult decision to ascend, leaving her country and church in the hands of her chosen ones and their descendants. With Mytheria's guidance, her church successfully subjugated the land of [Corvanis](Corvanis.md), establishing dominance and driving most other religions to a sparse following. However, for reasons yet unknown, certain deities, including Babylon, were completely cut off from the region.
Fast forward to 40 years ago to the aftermath of the Prismatic Trials, a significant event where the enemy and the forces of chaos were sealed away by the heroic efforts of [Kalkatesh's](Kalkatesh.md) champions. Meanwhile, on the distant continent of [Corvanis](Corvanis.md), the once mighty [Church of Mytheria](Church%20of%20Mytheria.md) experienced a sudden downfall, losing its tyrannical grip on power. The continent was thrown into chaos as various entities, be they political or otherwise, sought to fill the power vacuum left behind by the crumbling church. Among them were followers of other deities, like [Oloken'hai](Oloken'hai.md), who began appearing in [Corvanis](Corvanis.md), attempting to spread their influence.
For centuries, the rule across the continent of [Corvanis](Corvanis.md) had been that salvation could be found in Mytheria's light. Her church, serving as the savior and protector of [Corvanis](Corvanis.md), had upheld her holy [Litanies](Litanies%20of%20Mytheria.md) and stood as a stalwart against the encroaching darkness. However, unrest began to stir within the light itself. Mytheria's voice became scarce, if heard at all, and a sense of uncertainty permeated the continent. Though rarely spoken aloud, doubts began to erode faith. Opportunistic individuals within [Corvanis](Corvanis.md) sought to seize power, either by rebelling against the church, acting out of misguided intentions, or arriving from foreign lands with unknown agendas. Their actions threatened to damn the souls of the continent.
Yet, in the face of these challenges, the [The Church of Mytheria](Church%20of%20Mytheria.md) refused to falter. Its strength within the light would be renewed. And so, the story begins in [The Pale City](The%20Pale%20City.md), a hub of the church's influence. Despite recent rebellions, demonic sightings, and other concerns across the continent, recruitment in the city had never been an issue. However, the current state of unrest prompted the holy one to call for additional recruitment efforts. [The Church of Mytheria](Church%20of%20Mytheria.md) initiated several programs aimed at building a formidable fighting force.
### Worshipers
- Most people in [Corvanis](Corvanis.md) worship Mytheria, aside from apostates and [Foreigners](Foreigner.md).
- The use of most magic is Heretical. Overuse of magic interferes with the natural ley lines, spawning destructive creatures such as demons and fey which are a great threat to the people. Additionally, [Exposure](Exposure.md) generated from using magic resonates with accursed objects and regions to the detriment of the people. Therefore, magic users and beings with high exposure must be judged as Apostates.
### Religious Views
- The Day of Light is a Holy Day dedicated to worship (occurs on Wednesdays).
- Smoking is somewhat frowned upon, but allowed (Bound and Broken Ep. 8/The Dark Sermon Ep. 2)
- Given recent undead events, Cremation is currently preferred to honor the faithful dead.

>>"Oh blessed Mytheria thy first lesson to your children was a simple one. **Wherever there is darkness, light must also be. Light defeats darkness, it squelches it, burns it, banishes it! When the light be bright enough the shadows themselves are abandoned, but pay heed, for Mytheria's wisdom in this litany teaches us another lesson. For no matter how bright the light that we might burn there is always shadow. Our work is never truly done, your journey does not end until your death! One is never done with faith, one is never complete until the end.** Take heed upon this lesson, take firm upon this, and know this first litany teaches us that light defeats darkness, but that darkness is ever present and hold fast thy vigilance. Stand all and be seen by the light of Mytheria, raise your heads, lift your eyes and gaze. Let it flow over you. Do not fear it for only the guilty fear the light. Let my light be my guide, gaze upon me and know truth as it shines within! "

There is wisdom in all and wisdom in many, but be warned that there is a great lie in wisdom, for the apostate, the liar, the deviler, the evil can use that wisdom against you. It can be used for insipid tactics, be used for terrible crimes. For no greater harm has ever been done that was not done with good intention..."

>>#### [The Dark Sermon](Corvanis/Parties/The%20Dark%20Sermon/The%20Dark%20Sermon.md) Ep 1
>>"The third litany if you remember states on the importance of might, that **might is right**, and only the righteous can have it. It is important that we remember that the might of Mytheria is one conjured within herself. One that each of us possess within each other...Only the truly mighty can be truly kind for they need nothing in return. This is a lesson that you must remember that what you use your might for is for the good of all."
- The Fifth Litany- You shall be shown what you have done. "Oh light of Mytheria, shine down upon the worthy. Dispel lies and wickedness. And within your holy continence, might we know the truth. Might we know the guilt of this man. Might we know what your will shall be."
- The Sixth Litany- The Litany of Witness-character witnesses may speak within Mytheria's light
- The x Litany: Let thee that are given, be given back. Let mercy guide thy hand, let the wicked burn, and the righteous stand within the light.
- In the face of accusations of heresy, it is the duty of the enforcer of Mytheria to follow the Litany of Accusation, The Litany of Evidence, then the accused must speak their truth before Mytheria's light with the accusers present (fourth litany?). (Sagas and Solace ep 11)
### Appropriate Judgements for Apostates:
1) Put to Death (Burned at the stake or beheaded)
2) Undergo an Extremely risky surgery to remove their magic core by using holy water and silvers.
3) Rule of Four: Give up four other apostates to the church. Then once the others are found and sentenced, the apostate must be branded, join the church and perform duties at the church’s discretion.
4) Trial by Combat _(loosely based off Saint Malekai’s interpretation of the word of Mytheria, Law of Blood, but Many Do Not accept this option as canonical scripture)_ (The Brass Tax)
### Points of Interest
[The Pale City](The%20Pale%20City.md) is her holy city at the heart of the faithful, located in Northeast [Corvanis](Corvanis.md)
There is a winged statue of Mytheria smiling to the visitors of the [Frozen Flower Inn](Frozen%20Flower%20Inn.md). This statue melts the snow that lands upon it, giving her an imposing, storm-washed appearance.
### [The Church of Mytheria](Church%20of%20Mytheria.md)
Within her church, there are three great factions: [The Sword](The%20Sword%20of%20Mytheria.md), [The Shield](The%20Shield%20of%20Mytheria.md), and [[The Eye of Mytheria]].
Some known roles within the church are [Seekers of Mytheria](Seeker%20of%20Mytheria.md), Knights and Chaplain.
