# The Badlands
The **Badlands** is a landmass on the continent of [Kalkatesh](Kalkatesh.md).
### Geography
The Badlands is located in the middle of the continent, bordering with [Khao](Khao.md) on the east, [Orde](Orde.md) on the west, and the Sickened Sea on the south. The Badlands is vast wasteland, because it was the site where \"the remnants of the once great elven empire\" once stood, now reduced to poisonous dust and erratic storms. Clean water is scarce and food is mostly found in those that are able to carve out a living, consisting on what little farmable land that remains and often times resorting to dangerous hunting or cannibalism to survive. ## Notable Locations
- Gailen's Gate - A coastline city in the Badlands.
- [Morc's Rest](Morc's%20Rest.md)
### History
Once, the badlands was a nearly utopic landscape, filled with plenty and majesty. That all changed when Synonine Twelvestar the 7th, was betrayed by his son, ending the family line not only in it\'s governance, but
indeed changing the son into the first dark elf, the blight from that action, spread into the earth, poisoning it and the transformation to what the Badlands is today was swift and merciless. Thousands died
within the first few days from sickness and desperation. Thousands more from famine and neglect. The elves lost the seat of their power and the struggle for what remained would fuel the [The Scarab Lord Wars](The%20Scarab%20Lord%20Wars.md) in [Majital](Majital.md) that would cost the elves their last home.
There is however a spark of hope, for 60 years after [The Reckoning](The%20Reckoning.md), there began an expedition from the elves that followed the old ways, taking the last of the imperial line, to attempt to take back their homeland. their success is yet to be seen.
### Society
>
>## Demographics
>
>Creatures like gnolls, orcs and desperate dark elves are the most common of these tribes, but there are many forms of misery within this place.
>
>## Economy
>
>The only real economy of the Badlands are the excavation and selling of ancient elven artifacts and corpses.
>
>## Government
>
>The Badlands is ruled by no government, with the possible exception of the various tribes that roam it\'s wastes.
>
>## Military
>
>While war is no stranger to the Badlands, there are very few that could consider themselves to possess anything resembling a military. Most combat is tribal skirmishes that come to swift, brutal ends.
>
>## Religion
>
>For those that still cling to religion within this hopeless place, the gods vary wildly, from those that pray to the light, to those that embrace the dark, all are welcome equally to the famine and peril.
>
>## Science & Magic Development
>
>While the badlands was once a marvel of bio-magical engineering during the reign of the elven empire, it is now nothing but ash, dust and death.
