The character uses their [Vigor](Vigor.md). The attacker uses their [Prowess](Prowess.md), [Competence](Competence.md) or [Stamina](Stamina.md). If the character wins, they knock aside the attack, reducing its damage by half if it is a melee attack, or negating it if it is a ranged attack. In addition, if the attacker is in melee range, they are afflicted with Tier II [Prone](Prone.md).
