Target – Enemy Faith Ability or Spell
Range – 30ft
The Heretic selects a spell or ability controlled by an enemy Faith source. The Heretic attempts to counter that spell or ability by making an opposed attribute check using their [Tenacity](Tenacity.md), [Willpower](Willpower.md) or [Guile](Guile.md). The enemy may attempt to resist by using a sub-attribute of their choice. If the Heretic succeeds, the target is countered and its resources are not refunded.

The Heretic chooses a Vow ability from a Faith Class they do not have on their class list. The Heretic follows all of the dogma of that faith and mechanical requirements of that Vow, but receives the benefits of the other Vow class features they possess without needing to adhere to their requirements.

The Heretic gains the benefits of the Tenet class an enemy they encounter possesses during combat. If that enemy is defeated, the Heretic retains this ability until they face another creature with this ability, in which case this ability repeats itself.

At the start of the Heretic’s turn, they cause mayhem in the powers of Faith within an area around them. At the start of the Heretic’s turn, all imbuements within 15ft from a Faith source are reduced by 1 Tier. All afflictions in this range have their Tier increased by 1. Each ally controlled imbuement (or the Heretic’s) that is reduced deals 1 force damage to every enemy affected by this ability. Each enemy controlled affliction that is increased heals all of the Heretic’s allies (including the Heretic) for each enemy affected by this ability.

Whenever the Heretic would use the Core Action [Channel](Channel.md), they may attempt a Deception check against enemies within 20ft of them. If they do, the enemies may make opposed insight rolls, if the Heretic succeeds, those enemies are inflicted with [Frightened](Frightened.md), the tier of which is equal to the Heretic’s [Tenacity](Tenacity.md), [Willpower](Willpower.md) or [Guile](Guile.md).
