There are effects and build choices that increase Burden. If your total item Burden is greater then your allotted character Burden, you reduce your [MR](Movement%20Rating.md) an amount equal to the difference. Burden is separated into two types: **Gear Burden** and **Pack Burden** **Gear Burden** is calculated as such: >Racial Base + [Vigor](Vigor.md) + Character Path + Other = Total Burden --- Your **Pack Burden** is the total burden of all of your non-equipped or worn items. This includes sheathed weapons, stowed shields, stored consumables and so on. If an item does not have a Burden listed, it means it does not take up a sufficient amount of space or weight to need to be tracked. (However, the GM decides how much of something a character can carry.) **Pack Burden** is calculated as such: >Backpack + Racial Base + [Competence](Competence.md), [Cunning](Cunning.md) or [Guile](Guile.md) **Party Burden** is the combined Pack Burdens of the party + any vehicle Pack Burden they have with them. Each point over your Pack Burden reduces your MR by 1. The party that is over their Party Burden, has their **Overland Movement Rating** reduced by 1.
