The character makes a contested ability check. The character may use [Vigor](Vigor.md), [Competence](Competence.md), or [Stamina](Stamina.md). The attacker may use [Prowess](Prowess.md), [Competence](Competence.md), or [Authority](Authority.md). If the character succeeds, they may roll their shield’s block rating.
