In a Momentum Battle, several objectives are set out in the battlefield. All other regular combat rules are still applicable, with only the victory condition being altered. This means that the full defeat of a side is not tied to only all individual members of that side reaching 0 hit points or them retreating, but may also hinge on the results of various objectives. Momentum Battles have a mechanic referred to as Momentum. Each side involved in a momentum battle has a shared life pool called Morale. The main objective of a Momentum battle is to reduce the enemy's Morale to 0 before your own is. Momentum is gained whenever an objective is completed by one side. This gained Momentum may be spent to affect the battle's game state as a whole. Examples of this use include, but may not be limited to: - Harming the enemy's Morale by 1 for each point of Momentum; - Heal your party's Morale by 1 for each point of Momentum; - [Afflict](Afflict.md), [Imbue](Imbue.md), or use abilities pertinent to the particular battle. There are also special objectives which may outright lead to victory, such as defeating a crucial enemy, or destroying a targeted structure. Another aspect of Momentum Battles is Tactics, special parameters that are created through player actions, enemy types, scenario, weather, and such. These can vary depending on each side, and may cause the creation of alterations of objectives and strategies for each Momentum Battle. --- ### Momentum Battle Sub-Objectives: ## **Critical Defeat** This sub-objective is active in almost all Momentum Battle Scenarios: - The first time a leader-type enemy or a player is defeated (rendered Unconscious), grants the opposing side a point of Momentum. ## **Overwhelming Numbers** This sub-objective is active only when facing an apparent endless number of enemies: - If one side has more than twice the other side in terms of Total [Spirit](Spirit.md), that side gains a point of Momentum. --- ### Momentum Battle Types and Scenarios: ## **Point Hold** - The main objective of this Momentum Battle is to hold or take control specified points on the battlefield. - At the beginning of each round of this Momentum Battle Scenario, all Action Point maximums inside of the designated point are added together. Afterwards, each side makes a contested d20 roll, with the total Action Point maximums acting as their bonuses for their respective rolls. Whichever side would win, is considered to hold the point for that round. - From then on, at the start of each round, whichever side is considered to hold the most points gains a point of Momentum. ***Available Tactics:*** - **Attackers** ignore point losses for the first turn of combat. - **Defenders** begin the encounter with having claimed points. - **Defenders** are considered prepared. This means that they cannot be surprised, and they deal a +2 to damage. - For as long as **Defenders** are on points, they are considered to be Exposed, meaning that they cannot benefit from cover.
