Trying to help as best she could, Maelie robbed graves. It was on these odd jobs that she taught herself the magic she now wields as a mage. She sold what she could find to the highest bidder and used this money to keep the raiders off her family land.             In a string of bad events, her parents were killed and the family home razed to the ground by Elves, her buyer backed out on her, and her Uncle was carted off in chains by adventurers for the crime of robbing graves. Honoring a promise she made when her Ma died she saved one Elf who had raided her home.             The Elf, Cole, ended up sticking around to help Maelie rebuild. Eventually she grew to trust him and told him about her job. She had been saving what money she made from these hauls to buy their way out of the Badlands. On her last job, escaping some ruins through a secret passage, she noticed Cole and the adventurers who had arrested her Uncle setting up an ambush. He had sold her out. Maelie ran into the wilderness. Her last memory is being lost in a storm; the wailing of banshees closing in from all sides.
