They themselves have been in the backdrop of most of history, content to have a nice meal and relax in their homes. There have been, in moments of strife, where halflings were the uinexpected heroes, showing the world that they were as strong as any race and more importantly, fearless when the time came. Within them stirs the spirit of home and in equal measure, the conviction to defend. ### Characteristics ## Appearance Halflings are similar in appearance to humans but are several feet shorter in height, to the point that they could be easily confused for human children. ### Culture Anywhere a human could be found, a halfling can be found. While Halflings greatly prefer to live quiet and comfortable lives, they place great value on friendship, so much so that they will go to incredible lengths to aid a friend. ### History >_Halflings just appeared one day. Some believe they are the spawn of gnomes and humans, while others believed they are a magical experiment. But the truth, is that in a time of great peril, humanity was threatened in the first planar war, hunted by the Slaad and pushed nearly to extinction. It was then, in a final stand at the Gate of Gil, that human blood spilled into the meadow of Hasta. What the humans believed to be just a simple, beautiful meadow was in fact, the remnants of one of the Eldar stars. Thus a small being was formed in a rapid succession, a being whom could fight against the Slaad fear that stole the humans courage. They rose up naked and screaming to fight against these beings and the day was won. Mistake for children, the halflings were taken in by humankind and such the new race was born._ ### As a playable race Halflings are a standard playable race in [Verum](Verum.md). Before the [Corvanis](Corvanis.md) Arc, all Halflings by default shared the following traits: > |<!-- -->|<!-- -->| > |---|---| > |**Size**|Halflings average about 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 pounds. As a rule, they are good-hearted and kind, hate to see others in pain, and have no tolerance for oppression. They are also very orderly and traditional, leaning heavily on the support of their community and the comfort of their old ways.| >|**Lucky**|When you roll a 1 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.| > |**Brave**|You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.| > |**Halfling Nimbleness**|You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.| > |**Languages**|You can speak, read, and write Common and [Halfling](Verum/Races/Halfling.md). The Halfling language isn't secret, but halflings are loath to share it with others. They write very little, so they don't have a rich body of literature. Their oral tradition, however, is very strong.
